Updated: Points leader in Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship suffers injuryPosted June 9, 2009
Mike Alessi, who surged into the points lead on the back of two overall wins at the Hangtown Motocross Classic and the Flagstar Bank National -- Rounds 2 and 3 of the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championships -- has broken his kneecap while practicing in Pennsylvania. Round 4 of the 12 round series is this weekend, the Monster Energy National, presented by Centra Bank, in Mt. Morris, Pa. Update (June 9, 1:49 p.m.): Rockstar Makita Suzuki has reported that championship points leading rider, Mike Alessi, underwent successful left knee surgery this morning. "There was no other damage to the knee beyond the broken kneecap," said team manager, Roger DeCoster. "The outlook is better than expected, as we thought he was out for the year. It appears now that there's a good chance he will be able to get back out there racing before the end of this season." Alessi's condition and prognosis will be updated as more information becomes available. |
