Tuesday was open practice for all professional-licensed dirt-track racers just outside the Daytona International Speedway, as well as the AMA Racing Vet/Senior Shootout.

This was the first chance for the pros to turn a wheel on the new Daytona Short Track this week, where they will be racing in the first two rounds of the 2010 Grand National Championship series events the following two days. Although many came to see the pros, quality racing in the AMA Racing Vet/Senior Shootout race entertained and impressed everyone.

The main event for the vets and seniors got under way with Matt Sibbick grabbing the holeshot on his Yamaha followed by Roger Durkee. Brad Haas was off in third aboard a Rotax followed by Englishman Tim Greig.

Durkee quickly got into the groove running it in high, then squaring off and coming out low on each end of the track, making his way around the outside of Sibbick in turn four. Greig found a way around Haas on the second lap and set his sights on Sibbick.

While Durkee pulled out to a comfortable lead, Greig caught up and passed Sibbick for the second position. The race would end in that order.
