With the first few races in the books at the AMA Racing Road Race Grand Championships, riders Scott Stall of Huxley, Iowa, and Corey Alexander (shown above) of Carmel, N.Y. have showed that they’re in the running for the prestigious AMA Road Race Horizon Award, which will be handed out today at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

The Horizon Award will be presented to the amateur road racer who shows the most promise for a successful professional career.

While A.J. Krause led most of the race in the first battle of the day featuring Horizon Award hopefuls -- the Heavyweight Supersport contest -- Stall got by him near the end for the win.

"I did work really hard" in that race, Stall said, noting he and Krause have battled each other on the race track before.

In Alexander’s race, Lightweight Supersport, Alexander took the win after an early dogfight with Matt Evans.

“It was definitely a good ride,” Alexander said after the race. “I’m feeling a lot faster at this track, and getting used to this track. I rode it first last year and really liked it and knew it would be good today.”
