Ed Netterberg

Motorcyclist rights activist.
Leader and lobbyist for ABATE of South Dakota.

A longtime leader in the motorcyclists' rights movement, Ed Netterberg fought in South Dakota for increased funding for motorcycle safety and education, special license plates for handicapped riders, motorcyclist awareness month declarations and reasonable handlebar height limits.

He also worked closely with the South Dakota Transportation Department to establish new procedures for the motorcycle rider test required to obtain a license, changing the skills test from a cone to a street-riding observation.

Born in 1929, Netterberg spent many years as a leader and lobbyist for A.B.A.T.E of South Dakota, which is one of the most active and well-organized ABATE chapters in the nation. He died in 2001.
